Roof Refurbishment
Summer 2004

The Riddell Hall finished a programme of re-roofing and refurbishment works.  We received our Tri-partite funding from the Borough and County Councils.  We chose a natural looking slate composite tile in order to blend in with our beautiful conservation area.

Background
Lord Riddell commissioned The Hall to be built in 1911 on an old gravel pit.
Originally it was used by the Territorial Army as a Drill Hall and included an Officer's Mess, small rifle range and cinema room.
Lord Riddell was a Member of Parliament and bought land in the local area to build houses. His friends and acquaintances included Sir Winston Churchill, the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, (who designed several houses in the area) and Lloyd George.
In 1936 the Hall was left in Trust to the Village by Lord Riddell's wife.
The Hall is held in Trust with an elected Management Committee enabling the  smooth running, day-to-day maintenance and cleaning.
The Committee reports to the Charities Commission which has ultimate, legal responsibility for the Hall.
The Hall is run by the elected Management Committee for and on behalf of the people of Walton- on-the-Hill.
